Dr. Santhanam “Suresh” Suresh brings over 25 years of healthcare experience as a physician, educator, researcher and business leader while mentoring hundreds of individuals, including doctors, nurses, and researchers, at all levels, in the healthcare industry. He currently serves as the Arthur C. King Professor and Chair of the Department of Pediatric Anesthesiology at the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago where he leads a team of over 70 Anesthesia clinicians that provides anesthesia services in 25,000 pediatric cases annually. Suresh is a professor of both pediatrics and anesthesiology at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine.  Suresh is an avid teacher and looks forward to guiding Veterans and spouses into the next phases of their careers in medicine.  

Outside of Lurie Children’s, Suresh has several national and international leadership roles in the field of Pediatric Anesthesiology and is one of the first doctors to develop safer techniques of pain control through pediatric regional anesthesiology. In addition to serving on Boards of multiple professional organizations, he also co-chairs the SmartTots Steering Committee, which is an international private-public partnership with the FDA, that is focused on providing safe anesthesia care for pediatric patients, researching long-term outcomes and establishing guidelines. In addition, he lectures extensively both nationally and internationally and is well published on the topic.

Suresh is married to his wife Nina, with 3 grown children and has a grandson. He is currently working on his is EMBA at Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and cooking.
